Good afternoon, I am driving myself crazy looking for some information about a "credit file" "box" I have had for 20 years, it is made by National NCR dated 1907-1923 the sold date on the sheet on it states 9/25/1923. It must weight 200#'s and is oak and brass all incased I cannot locate any information about this do you know anything about them? I thank you for your time, if you dont know anything about it, let me know and I wont be expecting a reply thanks so much. I will say if I was collecting cash registers your page was so informative. Thanks again! Erma

I have a brass NCR register that is about 100 years old, serial # 1153427, model # 317, I think. I need key to unlock keys in register, or the name and number of someone close by that could help me with unlocking the keys

I just recently purchased an old NCR cash register, so I'm trying to learn more. I'm a junky and not a dealer, so I'm only interested in the value to justify my addiction. I got started collecting phonographs by purchasing just one for a conversation piece, now I have seven. I either need to attend antiques anonymous or buy a bigger house. Coincidently, my wife has recently started showing an interest in antique houses. Where does it end?

I have a NCR fleur-de Lis (lloked up on your site) thanks- cash register. It is in good condition but it is black and I am afraid I might ruin it if I try to restore it. I want to sell it. It has a number on the plate - right under the window where where the amount of the sale is registered. The number is 707661 or 707881. Does that mean anything? Could you give me a ballpark number - How much can I ask for the register? Thanks. Your website is great- It is the only place where you can fine out accurate information. Keep up the good work!!.

Just purchased a National Cash Register. The Serial # is: S461290EE 1852-E (model # I think) I believe this was manufactured in 1926, then reconditioned/resold in 1936, based on what I've seen on the internet and read on the machine. I am looking for a replacement ribbon, as the original is torn. Otherwise, the machine is in good working order. Could you confirm the date of manufacture and other details in the serial/model #'s? Also, I'd like a user manual, were they issued with the original machines? thanks for your help!

An appraisal of my NCR. I think it is a variation of the fleur-de-lis. It is black- but no magnet sticks to it. It has not been cleaned in ages. The sides are different from the front and it looks like the cash register used in the Andy Griffin show Mayberry.

I used to travel the midewest of the US with my dad. I remember the cash carrier systems very well. Except, there was a basket that was launched by a preloaded spring to an elevated cashier at the rear of the store. The clerk would simply place the record of the tranaction along with the money, pull on a wooden hadnle, and the basket would whisk its way to the cashier. When the transaction was omplete, the cashier would launch the basket bak to the point of purchase. It was simple, effective and worked well. The only real drawback I can remember is the network of cables originating at the counters and running up to the cashiers. It did not make for an uncluttered overhead. I found a cable cash carrier as the one I described a few years ago in an old variety store in Smithfield, Virginia. It worked perfectly and was still in constant use. I had a long talk with the store's owner about it. He was surprised I knew anything about Lamson, etc. I don't know if the machine or the store are still there. We have seen some interesting contraptions in our lives. The Lamson system was one of them. Of course, when I worked in a hospital in the early '70s a Lamson tube system move paperwork and even prescriptions all over the hospital. I can remember the hospital PA announcing that, "...the Lamson tube system is down, please don't try to use it..."

My parents have a National register - Model 314 I believe - mfg in 1914 - just trying to find out some info on the unit. One item of note, the unit identifies who it was built for - in this unit's case, a Peter Hart Jr. Is that ever of interest / value? Perhaps the person (Hart) this unit was built for may have been the mayor of Ansonia CT. I'll try to find out more and be back in touch. Good, informative site. Thanks!

I bought a national cash register at an auction several years ago. I am thinking about donating it for another auction.I looked at this site and could not find exactly what I have.On the front left top one plate says 47 1/4 and on the top right side plate says 375123 (which I think is the serial #) In the top middle where it says national cash register it lists different patent dates starting from sep 1 85 ending with jan 15 97.I would like to able to tell the auction people as much as I can about it.And, to get a value in case we wish to make a minimum bid. Thank you

I have a National product, dont know what it is. It has a phone handset but no way to dial a number. It has a mechanism that stamps the date on a card or piece of paper that one would slide under it. The date is changed manually and requires a ribbon like a type writer. It says "National" on the back and has the number 349E #2 on the bottom. It has one drawer that you have to pull out. It is approx 6" wide,12" tall and 8" front to back. There is one button on the front that pushes in and stays but pops up when the handset is lifted. Any ideas what this thing is? If you would like I can send a picture of it. Thank you for your time.

I inherited 2 cash registers from my father after he passed away in Dec. 06. They were in his barn covered up and had been there at least 20 years. Unkown origins. I am interested in selling them but would first like to learn a little about them - Restore or not, current value, how to operate (The American register is stuck closed and the key/buttons do not function- I have the keys for unlocking). I have not located the NCR register serial number - Have not located yet. I have photos and I.D. info that can be E mailed. Thank you. Sincerely, Charlie Van Riper cav365@sbcglobal.net 248-345-0135

I really appreciated your site! A friend gave me a cash register and your site has helped. It is a NCR model 313, serial # 1306372 and was a nickel plated machine. It needs restoring and is really dirty. There is no top sign. Can you give me a ballpark figure of what it is worth. My ex-wife has a large brass register I restored years ago and I am going to get the model and serial number off of that one also and send for an appraisal. Thanks, Kris

I located a Model 45 cash drawer today. It must be rare--internet searched turned up nothing. Nice condition, still has the original label underneath the drawer. It is oak, has the original glass inkwell insert, Ser. #2244090 sold to Kelly Springfield Tire in El Paso, TX on 6-17-24. It's missing both keys. Are these available? The instruction label inside the tilt top is half torn off. Is that still available as a re-print or something? What would be an average value? I was forced to pay $62.00. I know....Great Site!

I am a repair shop that was asked by a family member if I could repair my grandfathers register. It was beat up with a bat during a robbery and is in need of some castings. I would rather find a parts register to do this repair instead of dismantling a functional register for the parts. Thanks for your time, Baron Poser

I remember Lamson cash carriers in both New Kensington, Pennsylvania and Wheeling, West Virginia but I do not see the type I am most familiar with in the web sites so far. Klingensmith Hardware, however, did have the type shown in the sites where you pull a handle and the carrier slides along a wire.

Just purchased a metal, not brass NCR register s/n 4089624 that after 1-2 depressions of a key, the key jams until i wiggle the mechanism connected to the drawer. I don't have any keys but the cover to the paper holder is open and I removed the bottom to get the drawer unlocked. My questions is how do I disassemble the outer cabinet so I can get at the internals..no visible sign of taking apart. Any hints??

You have a very informative site. I have one of the big boys. It is an 855 - Register No. 1727320. I know it is not worth a lot to any investor but it is priceless to me. It was my grandfather's. The date of manufacture is 5-24-19. My grandfather was 4 months and 5 days old on that day. It has a printer roller in it that reads, "Agency for FORD CARS and genuine FORD PARTS". I'm not sure if that increases the value, but that's OK too. Just wanted to share this with you. Email me sometime if you get a chance.

|Hi Fred. Your gallery page has a nice new look.I am getting a kick out of people writing in and asking for help with mechanical things such as stuck keys etc. Are they kidding!? I guess they never took a look inside as other than a slot machine these old registers are the most complicated devices ever made. How were you supposed to be of help? Its no fun trying to figure out most of these 'minor' problem when the machine is right in front of you.....but to ask how do I fix the stuck key is just wishful thinking. How are you supposed to explain it to them even if you could diagnose it?! Anywar, other that that laugh - I am somewhat disappointed at the LACK of questions-comments concerning the beautiful assortment of paint signs on your page. Am I the only one that sees this part of your site? I mean, I know you got a great looking cash register page, but what the heck happened to interest in the porcelain signs?! Oh well.........Just one final note......My porcelain enamel sign book will be ready for release later this year. Looks like the biggest yet by far.,....over 200 pages, about 800 color photographs, and a first.... HARDBOUND! Give me a shout when you get a chance. Good luck on the web page....its nice!........Mike

There is a old store near Montreal, Quebec, Canada, which still has a Lamson Cable Cash Carrier System. It looks exactly like your pictures from your basement installation. It has three zones of cables, serving the different departments in the store. Two of the zones have been defective for few years. I was there the other day and they told me they had just changed the cable last summer and since that time the third and last zone has been out of order. It seems like the new cable is polyester and it stretches too much. Also, the little clamps under the delivery boxes, which attach to the cable, seem it slip on the cable and so now they must find right type of cable. My question is ...do you have any information about the original cable used by Lamson? Would cotton or hemp be a good idea? Thanks for your website...great pics and info.

Thanks for stopping by!
